BoxCon Setup

One-time setup. Takes about 5 minutes. Do this before first use on any new laptop or amp.

1

Set a static IP on the D80

On the D80 front panel:

Navigate to Setup → Network → IP Address and set:

IP Address: 192.168.1.10
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1

Save and reboot the amp if prompted.

Note: This only needs to be done once per amp. The IP is stored in the amp's memory.
2

Set a static IP on the laptop

Mac: System Settings → Network → Ethernet → Details → TCP/IP → Configure IPv4: Manually

IP Address: 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.1.1

Windows: Control Panel → Network → Ethernet → Properties → IPv4 → Use the following IP address

IP Address: 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
3

Connect the cable

Plug a CAT6 cable from the laptop's Ethernet port directly into the D80's etherCON (RJ45) port on the rear panel. No switch or router needed — direct connection only.

If your laptop has no Ethernet port: Use a USB-C to Ethernet or Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter. Most work without drivers on Mac and Windows 10/11.
4

Power on the amp

Make sure the D80 is fully booted before connecting. The front panel display should be showing the main screen, not a boot sequence.

5

Connect in BoxCon

Click the Offline pill in the top right corner. BoxCon will scan the network and attempt to find the amp automatically. If found, click Connect. The pill will turn green.

If BoxCon can't find the amp automatically, enter 192.168.1.10 manually and click Connect.

Troubleshooting

Won't connect: Check the CAT6 cable is seated. Check the laptop IP is set correctly (step 2). Check the amp IP matches (step 1). Try pinging 192.168.1.10 from the terminal.

Amp not found on scan: Enter the IP manually. If you changed the amp's IP from the default, enter whatever IP is set on the D80.

How TEST judges a box: the amp's Calibrate is the measurement. The D80 has no absolute reference of its own (Check only compares a box with its own last calibration), so BoxCon compares the measured ohms with d&b's published typical value for that cabinet (D80 manual, Typical impedance values, ±20%). Save a reading from a box you know is good and it overrides the typical value for that type. TEST also clears the amp's stored value first, so it can tell a new measurement from an old one.
